Taking a chance here...

I am going to go out on a limb here and talk about some "taboo" topics and hope everyone in blog land understands why... and do not jump down my throat - I am just trying to educate a few people here.

First - butt sniffing. To a dog, this is like us shaking hands and saying hello. I do not give them "heck" for this - it is natural and normal - they are checking who they are greeting and finding out what they have eaten lately, how they are feeling, where they might have been... Normal!

This is not doggie style sex play - it is just play, period - normal!

This is not a "nasty" thing - to a dog, this is how they clean themselves. To puppies, whose Mother has been doing this lovingly to them, it is a sign of affection as well... There is no need to worry about your puppies - normal!

They do get themselves into some funny "positions". You may see them "humping" each other, however this is very innocent play at this age. At times they are just doing what comes natural to them, or they are trying to be "the boss" or " the winner" of a wrestling match.
My adult girls often do this, as a form of play... (the I'm the boss kind) now, if you see Chipper doing it (rare indeed as he is now 13 and getting arthritic) he means business and one of the girls must be ready to breed.

But, they are innocent, trust me! It is important, however, to get your puppy spayed or neutered prior to 6 months of age though, or they will start developing "sexual" behavior, including territorial marking for the males.
